PROJECTWORK-THE COMPLETE INTEGRATION OF TECHNOLOGY EDUCATION IN THE COMPULSORY SCHOOL CURRICULUM - A CONCEPT OF THE MODERN SCHOOL WITHOUT ALTERNATIVE
Today's rapid changes and dynamics of society from the students and young people require competencies needed to quick adaptation and managing at the new and unfamiliar conditions. Because of deterministic human dispositions, these competencies can’t be acquired at each stage of development even in a standard school environment, which is the development of these competencies left to chance and the conditions of their own living environment. Recognizing this problem, scientists and experts have warned for decades that the traditionalistic education, what dominates today in Europe, can't solve this problem and seek a radical change of paradigm and approaches to education. Despite of these efforts, education systems only partly take into account these observations, while compulsory education remains a collection of unrelated and decontextualized teaching objects and areas. Technology education, despite existing prejudices, is imposed as the only alternative that, through meaningful concepts, approaches and activities, can develop a systematic approach to solving problems and appropriate adaptive and anticipatory student's competences. The comparative advantage of technology education is its integrative function to connect knowledge from different fields in meaningful contents, products and concepts. In this way the students during the process of self-realization acquire a real knowledge, skills, values and attitudes, but also develop their own mental mechanisms which are necessary for the coping with the new circumstances. Therefore, the concept of modern general and compulsory education should start from the view that particular teaching subjects providing only information which meaning receive exclusively during meaningful development of services, products and new values of the contents, as a technical and technological component of the curriculum. This concept propose minimal time for the presentation of educational content, and maximize time and environment for the realisation of collaborative activities, while responsible position of the moderator of most activities in the general and compulsory education provided for the technology teacher. However, realization of this concept, whose beginnings we find in "project weeks" of some education systems, requires the breakdown rooted teaching clichés, especially in the "important" subjects, but also a radical transformation of consciousness of all teachers of their own role in the development of students. This concept provided a special role to the technology teacher and importance of the technology teaching area, which is, due to the unique function, without adequate alternatives for societies that want to be "society of knowledge" and "society of economic prosperity".
