Renewable Energy Policies for Eco-Innovation
This chapter summarizes recent approaches in evaluating the policy instruments used to promote eco-innovations. The value added of the chapter is, firstly, in revealing the possible research avenues for scientists who are conducting theoretical or empirical (econometric or case study) analyses. Secondly, and differently from other reviews dealing with similar issues, this chapter links all these different research approaches with the impact of the main financial and fiscal instruments on both technological innovations and their diffusion. Although, so far, these instruments have usually been examined separately, or comparisons made including two or three different ones, the comprehensive overview of their impacts definitely provides a broader picture that could support policy-making decisions in the field of renewable energy. It is well known that the pressure on global energy resources is high. Therefore, current climate policy should adopt financial and fiscal support measures that will limit harmful emissions and promote clean energy. Emerging from the identification of this issue, the main purpose of this chapter is to critically examine the recent advances in researchers’ efforts to identify the effectiveness and efficiency of these support measures in fostering the process of technological change.
