In the pursiut of a perfect project manager
In 1989 a survey was carried out among civil engineers to learn their views about the knowledge and skills needed by managers. The authors used the results of this survey to identify “ the most important” knowledge and skills needed by managers in civil engineering at that time. Now, 13 years later, in a completely different economic and political setting, the authors wanted to single out the “ most important” knowledge and skills needed by the modern manager and project manager. Basing their results on field research, the authors compared the knowledge and skills needed by the perfect manager then and now. The questionnaire used was primarily developed to “ search for the perfect manager” , but for the needs of this conference the survey was extended to a group of project managers, to find out whether the perfect manager and the perfect project manager need different knowledge and skills to do their jobs successfully.
