Istvánffy Miklós és Horvátország – közember és magánember
In this contribution the authoress indicates strong connections Istvanffy had with Croatia. Due to his participation in Croatian political and cultural life, along with his family and relationships with the Croatian aristocracy (Gyulay, Drašković and Keglević families), but also because of intensive – and insufficiently highlighted – influence of his historical work on Croatian historiography (Juraj Rattkay, Pavao Ritter Vitezović, Baltazar Adam Krčelić), Istvánffy holds a significant place in Croatian history and culture. He possessed several estates in Varaždin, Zagreb and Križevci Counties, so as a landowner he participated in the work of Croatian diet, and as a politician and diplomat participated in various state committees and delegations to the royal court. In the article the authoress also analyzes his role of a devoted Catholic ; he donated some of his estates and a part of his valuable library to Jesuit order in Croatia. After his retirement from active political life, he had permanently moved to his estate Vinica in Varaždin County, where he dedicated the rest of his life to historiography work. He was also buried there – a gravestone of Istvánffy family from 1603 and embossed plates in 1604 with the family coat of arms that remained preserved purport this undoubtedly.
