Haematological and biochemical parameters in fallow deer (Dama dama L.) fed with addition of organic selenium
The aim of this study was to determine the influence of selenium supplementation on hematological and biochemical indicators in the blood of fallow deer. The study was conducted on 40 fallow shot in the hunting season during the two years of research. Supplementary feed with selenium (3 mg/kg) were performed for 60 days during the second year of study, during summer months. The statistical model includes young (up to one year old) and adult animals (from one to nine years old), and nutrition with the addition of selenium and without it. Significantly (P<0.05) lower share of monocytes was determined in the second research year. Concentration of glucose, total proteins, albumin, globulins, urea, triglyceride, cholesterol and Fe did not differ according to dietary treatment. Significantly higher concentration of total protein, globulin and IgG were found in adult animals compared to the young irrespective of the treatment. Significantly (P<0.05) higher concentration of glucose, triglyceride, cholesterol HDL, LDL and Fe were determined in young compared to the aduld deer. In the observed model, the addition of selenium in the summer months over 60 days did not significantly affect hematological or biochemical indicators
