Numerical modelling of wall film condensation and evaporation processes
This work presents the theory and the validation of the implemented wall condensation - evaporation model. The turbulence in the near wall region is modelled by means of the wall functions. Based on the wall functions, the heat transfer coefficient is calculated and the mass transfer coefficient is evaluated using the heat and mass transfer analogy. The implemented model takes into account the thickening and reducing of the flow boundary layer as a consequence of the condensation and evaporation processes. The heat transfer through the liquid film is neglected and the interface temperature is equal to the wall temperature. The model is thoroughly validated and compared with experimental research. In the results section, first the CONAN condensation cases are shown, afterwards the model was enhanced with the evaporation module which was validated against several evaporation cases published in different scientific publications.
