Implant's surface morphology and roughness influence on bonding with bone cement
This paper examines how implant surface roughness affects the implant-bone tissue interface. Firstly, the principles of bringing bone tissue in contact with inner surfaces in an implant-bone system are described and based on the current state in the field of research, an overview of the advantages and the disadvantages is given. Surface roughness (recognized as a relevant factor in this context) was analyzed in this study. The modification of the surface roughness parameters of the Ti6Al4V titanium alloy samples resulted from chemical etching. The etching process was carried out using Kroll's solution and nitric acid, varying exposure times. The recorded surface roughness parameter modifications were related to the morphological changes observed on the surface samples by means of scanning electron microscopy. Finally, filling out of the samples'surface defects with bone cement was analysed by means of optical microscopy, and the strength of the resulting interfaces was determined by static tensile tests.
