How can I teach my pupils about human rights?
Human rights education at the university level is usually not an obligatory course. Human right topics can be, and they often are, however, tackled in various courses. This workshop is one example of how it can be done. The objective of this workshop is to discuss why it is importat to learn about human rights, about protecting them and how to connect them with students' personal values and thier professional values. The workshop starts with reflecting about their individual values and continues with sharing mutual values. Then the Declaration on Human Rights is analyised and viewed at from the perpective of their future professional roles. Their attitudes and knowledge related to human rights will be explored and challenged through the following topics: education of HR, protection of HR, violations of HR, importance of HR, position of HR in society over the time and generations. Recommendations and implications for their future studying and work will be discussed.
