Grob iz II. svjetskog rata i još jedan grob iz istog rata ili poraća iz Slavonije
Archaeological excavations of scaffolds or battlefields with remains of executed civilians and soldiers are still rare in Croatia where is particularly important to investigate victims from the World War II, and the times of communist rule. They are still underestimated and their numerous graves and scaffolds are scattered all over Croatia and neighboring countries (former Yugoslavia). Most of them have records, but there are even more of them that are not mentioned, including individual executionsand situations where remains of the dead "enemy" soldiers were left and not buried in an appropriate way. During lastyears, upon surveyes of complex archeological sites we came to such positions. During the rescue archaeology excavations on the highway route trough Slavonia, our Department had an opportunity to explore two graves. They were found on two different positions and we gave the archaeological interpretation for both of them. For the grave from Verušed near Osijek is pretty clear that we have dead soldier who died during battle or was excecuted on the battlefield. The other one was found in Debela šuma near Stari Perkovci. His arms were tied and he was naked during execution. That is why we are not certain whether was he civilian or a soldier. These two examples provide an insight into similar situations that could be found on lot of sights across the country.
