A Stakeholder Analysis of Sport Clubs: Medvescak Hockey Club Case Study
Throughout the 20th century, sport clubs developed from local leisure activity organizations, to becoming multi-national corporations. Like in any other industry, managers in sport clubs are constantly looking for governing models, that will help them satisfy their wide range of stakeholders. Stakeholder analysis is the process of identifying individuals or groups that are likely to affect or be affected by a proposed action, and sorting them based on the level of impact they will have on the action, and the impact the action will have on them. The social complexity of organizations can be witnessed in sport clubs more than in any other organizations. This can be seen through the fact that categorization of stakeholder groups, that is used in other industries, does often not apply. This paper creates a basis for a future theoretical framework in stakeholder analysis of sport clubs. This framework is tested through an extensive case study of KHL Medvescak, a Croatian ice hockey club, that has recently gone through the process of transforming from local community club to becoming an internationaly recognised brand.
