The Croatian Salon and the Vienna Secession Painting in Zagreb and Vienna around 1900.
The two decades before and after the turn of the nineteenth to the twentieth century were the period when the fundamentals were laid for the artistic freedoms that led to the modern and later the avant-garde currents in art's development. In the painting of this period - which we conditionally describe as Art Nouveau in style, and as Symbolist for its sense of spiritual atmosfere - thet art became the sphere where the meaning of human existence was exemined. The image became the field of refection that was colosely conected with the artist and his inner life.
