Determination of reaction kinetics of DPPH free radical with gallic acid using UV/VIS spectrophotometry

The objective of the study was to determine the reaction kinetics of the DPPH free radical with gallic acid. For the investigation of this reaction a three different concentrations (0.125 mg/ml, 0.062 mg/ml and 0.012 mg/ml) of the gallic acid were used. Concentration of the DPPH radical (3.95 10-5 mol dm-3) was held constant. Maximum of absorption of the DPPH solution was 516 nm, on which the reaction mixture was measured during the 300 s time interval. Absorbance was recorded by a Shimadzu UV/VIS spectrophotometer, using disposable cuvettes. Rate constant, reaction rate and reaction order were determined.
