The symptomatic treatment of multiple sclerosis
In the symptomatic treatment of MS corticosteroids have been the treatment choice for acute episode for over 30 years and have proved to be useful in different forms by different routes. Treatment of other symptoms such as spasticity, bladder problems constipation, sexual problems, fatigue, tremor, pain and sensory disturbances are discussed. The treating neurologist must play a central role in the tretment. The patient needs to be able to consult, discuss and plan with the one person who is able to understand, appreciate all aspects of disease and its management. Treating MS patients extends over many years and is a demanding tasks that requires patience, forbearance and mostly compassion.
