A gold annular brooch with an inscription of grand duke Petar of Hum
The paper discusses a well-known and often publicized luxurious cast gold annular brooch, of a round shape and hexagonal cross-section. The inscription on the brooch reveals that it was owned by Petar, Grand Duke of Hum. Comparing this find with the known analogous objects, in which the rareness of this type of objects in a broader geographic area comes to the fore, the paper raises the issue of its origin and date, focusing on its decoration in the shape of a nielloed wreath of oblique leaves. By doing so, it also questions the identification of Petar, Grand Duke of Hum. At the same time, a new interpretation of its bilingual inscription is put forward. The uniqueness of the brooch suggests that its origin, date, as well as the presumed function of this insignia, ought to be looked at in a different light.
