Probabilistic Uncertainty in Engineering System Analysis
Probability theory takes over the concept of uncertainty from information theory. The probabilistic uncertainty is expesssed by the information entropy of systems and subsystems and by average numbers of random events. The entropy has a number of natural properties for notions of uncertainty in reality. The probabilistic uncertainty is also related to statistical variability. The entropy concept is applied to uncertainty analysis of systems whose services can be presented by random events. System safety is a compound uncertain property of uncertain system reliability, redundancy and robustness.
