Perception of health benefit in sport engagement of professional players
Sample of 30 professional tennis players and 30 professional soccer players were measured by SITA scale (Horga and Barnik, 1991) consisting of eight subscales: physical activity for health and fitness, social experience, pursuit of vertigo, aesthetic experience, catharsis, physical activity as an ascetic experience, physical activity as a play, and physical activity as a need for movement. The goal of this research was to determine whether the health benefit motives and other motives which are immanent to recreationists, could be identified within professional athletes. The results showed the motives, which are commonly found among recreationists, have their place in a complex motivational system of professional athletes. The highest in rank is health and fitness, than aesthetic experience. The lowest in rank are pursuit of vertigo and catharsis. It was established by the multivariat analysis of variance that there is no statistical significant difference in the result of professional tennis players and soccer players.
