Res Gestae (28, 1) and the establishment of Roman colonies on the Eastern Adriatic

The foundation of some of the Roman colonies on the Eastern Adriatic coast has been often attributed to Augustus, but Ceasar’s role has also been taken into consideration, given his administrative interest in the region. The origins of the colonies of Parentium, Pola, Iader, Salona, Narona and Epidaurum can be traced in a scheme outlined by Caesar before his death, but the Civil Wars that followed have delayed their full development. Only after 27 B.C. could Augustus have sent additional colonists into them and they started to prosper.
