The use of ILS Techniques in the Construction Industry
This paper reports the results of a research programme which sets out to develop a framework for capturing and analysing whole life data for constructed facilities and to determine which Integrated Logistic Support (ILS) techniques will be of use for different types of construction projects. The purpose of this paper is to report on the results of a series of structured interviews which were conducted with a range of designers, project managers, maintenance managers, facility managers, cost estimators, construction managers, financial advisors, and others. The techniques, which were listed in the interview, include WLC, RCM, FMEA, FTA, ARM, LORA, Risk Management and Value Management. The interviews included a series of questions that set out to identify how and at which stage of the project life cycle each ILS technique is being used, the type of data already being collected and the data which should be collected to implement each technique. Analysis and discussion of the 38 interviews carried out are presented.
