Agroecosystem Monitoring in Environment of Central Gas Station Molve

Central gas station (CGS) of gas borehole system Podravina is located near village Molve in NE part of Croatia and delivers to the consumers about 45 % of total national gas production in Croatia. Natural gas is not a pure product, when gas is extracted from underground fields under critical conditions (high p/Pa and T/°C) and it may contain harmful and corrosive components such as CO2 as the least harmful one but climate affected, up to H2S, RHS and Hg0 which could be very harmful for plants and global stability of ecosystem. In CGS, natural gas is collected, treated, purified and distributed to consumers. This part of Pannonian plain in Croatia is also a traditionally agricultural region rich in natural gas below the ground. Coexistence of agriculture and gas exploitation is simple essential and the only sustainable approach for all stakeholders ; industry, farmers and citizens of Podravina. During the years, technology adaptation and modernization made by INA to more and more demanding and rigorous standards and legislation in environment protection were not questionable. Still, despite all that had been done by the industry, and regarding the potential risk of harmful substances entering the food chain, independent scientists, last 28 years monitor content of specific substances in all components of ecosystem. Within multidisciplinary approach, monitoring includes influence on: air, water, soil, plant, forest, animal (wild and domestic) and indeed on humans. Since 1991, agroecosystem monitoring has been made by University of Zagreb, Faculty of Agriculture, Department for General Agronomy on carefully selected representative locations in CGS environment, considering soil type, wetting regimes and wind rose. Variations in physical and chemical properties of soil (soil quality) and chemical properties in Plantain (Plantago Lanceolata) have been monitoring. In this presentation, contents of some chemical parameters in different soil types and in plants will be discussed, and connection between agroecosystem and other spheres (atmo and bio) will be shown.
