The dwelling-working space yestreday, today, tomorrow

The objective of this paper is to trace the development of the concept of dwelling as a working space. After a short historical survey with mention of two basic flats: rural and urban, both incorporating besides living also working sphere, there is a mention of the emergence of so called protective flat, incorporating only the function of sleeping and, in reaction to it, the appearance of the so called recreational flat. The main emphasis is given to the concept of the dwelling/working flat today already influenced by new technologies and communications. In the last chapter the vision of a new type- the «technological flat» is sketched. Pointing at its advantages and disadvantages (loss of privacy) the conclusion stresses the importance of a possibility of choice, that tomorrow dwelling should offer.
