Correlation between Oil Field Depletion and Flaring Emissions
In this work, we will show an example of CO2 emissions estimate at oil fields that are not connected to gas transportation system. It will cover depletion analysis in a small oil reservoir by decline curve analysis. The amount of gas that escapes from oil in a reservoir was simulated by differential liberation experiment. Stoichiometric analysis of flaring i.e., the amount of CO2 produced by burning all the gas from the separator (by assumption of 100 % flaring efficiency) has been performed. Differential liberation of gas from an oil composition was described by matching the laboratory results with equation of state (EOS). The process includes equation of state tuning by changing parameters for plus fraction. The amounts of liquid (and gas) and phase compositions at each stage of pressure depletion in a reservoir cannot be correlated. They are estimated by PVT simulation but the resulting CO2 emissions from flaring versus time show good linear correlation. Discussion about possible reduction of CO2 emissions in described case is given and conclusion is that there will be a minimum production when some actions for CO2 reduction from flaring at (small) oil fields is feasible.
