CYP2D6 polymorphism and side effects in schizophrenia and schizoaffective psychosis
Cytochrome P450 (CYP) 2D6 enzyme is involved in the oxidative metabolism of different psychoactive drugs, including some antipsychotics used for treatment of schizophrenia and schizoaffective disorder. CYP2D6 genetic polymorphism is thought to be the major contributor to interindividual differences in the therapeutic drug response and occurrence of undesirable side effects. The aim of the study was to assess the relationship between CYP2D6 gene polymorphism and parkinsonian side effects.
