Demand of crew in seafarers market and predicton for future
Shipping is one of the main aspects of global economy. It represents the largest European industry. The global supply of seaf arers in 2015 was estimated at 1, 647, 500 seafarers, of whom 774, 000 were officers and 873, 500 we re ratings. However, the BIMCO and ICS report estimated that there was a surplus of about 119, 000 ratings (15.8%), while the demand had increased by just about 1% s ince 2010. Significantly, China is thought to have overtaken the Philippines as the largest single source of seafarers. At Croatian faculties of maritime studies and at foreign higher education institutions that are engaged as partners in IMSC co -organization, this trend can be observed through the increased interest of students in enrolling maritime study programs. In spite of this, the capacity of these institutions, the STCW standards and quality limits do not permit the enrolling quotas to increase.
