Cost effectiveness of pumpkin application in fattering pigs
This stady was conctucted to determine the cost effectiveness of using pulp for making silage and feeding them to finishing pigs. A total of 20 pigs were divided into 2 groups (A and B). Group A was fed with 64% maize seed and 36% pumpkin pulp, whereas group B was fed with pure maiz seed silage. The average feed convers was reduced from 3.7 to 3.5 kg by using pulp in pig finishing. The average mixture feed price was reduced from 0.19 to 0.17 euro by using pulp. The total expenses decreased from 46.35 to 40.27 euro. Economical feeding coefficient increased from 3.1 to 3.7 points (19%). In one fattering turn, 100 stalled hogs resulted to an income of 14.285 euro. Total expenses were 14.552 euro. Using pulp in simulated conditions for 100 stalled hogs resulted to an oncome of 14.954 euro. The averege finishing stalled hog mass was 100.6 kg in the group fed with pumpkin silage, whereas that in the group fed with maize silage was 96.1 kg.
