CREST - Program for Evaluation of Ship Structural Safety

The methodology for the structural evaluation of newbuildings and ships in service has been developed. It includes: (1) modules for the structural model data generation, (2) modules for loading generation, (3) modules for determination of the minimal scantlings following rules of the Croatian Register of Shipping (in further text CRS), (4) modules for direct calculation of the longitudinal strength, (5) modules for the transverse strength calculation, (6) modules for the data acquisition of the corrosion measurements and the structural model update, (7) modules for the structural safety calculation based on the library of structural safety criteria and permitted stress levels, (8) modules for the graphic presentation of the model, loading, deformations, stresses, safety factors, corrosion data, etc. Through cooperation with PROTEUS Engineering the data generated in MAESTRO Modeler (MM) or MAESTRO Graphics (MG) are directly transferred to the developed system in pre or post processing phase. Compatibility with CRS rules is achieved via set of descriptors enabling execution of the relevant rules for control of "as built" or corroded scantlings. Shear flow and corrected stresses in bending and warping torsion are calculated using original extended beam theory. Newly developed 8-node stiffened panel macroelements are used for modeling of the transverse structural response. Serviceability and ultimate strength criteria are used in the form of automatic procedure or as calculator enabling interactive redesign of structural elements. Practical applications of the methodology to bulk-carrier structures is presented.
