Contribution to the research of hot tears in steel castings

A semiquantitative model of hot tears in low- carbon steel castings of centerline symetry has been presented in the paper. Analytical dependence between pouring temperature, free contraction rate and solidification time has been obtained. A casting with hot tear has been examined metallographically and by means of scanning electronic microscope, and analyzed by x-ray diffraction.
