Experimental characterisation of the high-pressure metal-halide Na-Sc-Hg discharge

We report a preliminary study of the distribution of electron temperature and density as well as the density of neutral atoms in a high-pressure Na-Sc-Hg metal-halide discharge. Standard emission spectroscopy technique was used in the diagnostics of the arc plasma [3, 4]. The measurements have been performed using 400W high-pressure metal-halide discharges operated vertically, with appropriate conventional inductive chokes. The calibration of the system response has been made by using a tungsten ribbon lamp. The DC- or lock-in detection followed by A/D conversion, and computer data acquisition has been used to store the raw data.
