Chestnut blight and investigation on possibility of disease control by hypovirulent strains

General phytopathological problem of chestnut canker in Croatia is presented. The apperance of hypovirulent strain of Cryphonectria parasitica is spontaneous and is manifested in healing cankers and superficial necrosis. Transferability of hypovirulent factor from hypovirulent into virulent strains is used in field experiments for chestnut blight control. The experiments of hypovirulent mixture applications were caried out in 1988 and 1989in ongrafted tree in forest. The resuls of the applications after five respectively four years e presented and discussed.
