Timber – Structural Glass Composite Systems
In recent decades there has been a rapid development of glass as a load-bearing material. The increase in the application of glass is partially limited due to the lack of available and appropriate regulations and standards. Structural glass combined with a timber frame is a composite system that has a predisposition for a good behavior during an earthquake ; it is energy-efficient and cost- effective, aesthetically acceptable, and has good load-bearing characteristics. This talk gives an overview of scientific work in the field of composite systems made of timber and glass with the laboratory experiments obtained by the University of Zagreb. Special attention will be given to the connections in timber and composite structures. This lecture will also show future trends in wood and hybrid structures.
