Possibilities of Improving the Zagreb Traffic System Using Methods of Traffic Flow Organisation and Regulation
The city of Zagreb, together with the World Bank, has prepared a traffic study, which represents only a fine research material for the possible plan of the traffic system development of the City of Zagreb (primary road network, parking system, the system of public urban and suburban transportation). The quality of the suggested solutions does not follow the quality of the research into the existing traffic situation. The system of urban public transport of passengers, namely, does not accept the role of railway and does not or cannot provide high-quality, long-term solutions. Having in mind the area included in the Study (bordered by the bypass motorway and the Zagreb mountain), it is unable to provide a good solution to the traffic within Zagreb and the integration of Zagreb into the traffic system of central Croatia, with which it makes a regional and functional whole. The state of traffic, i.e. the organisation of traffic flows is becoming daily a major problem to the citizens, visitors and to the economy of Zagreb. The traffic is turning into a huge development, social, economic, ecological and safety problem.
