Of judges and robots
The article explores what we can learn about our expectations from the adjudication process from our fears that robot-judges might once take over judicial decision-making. It juxtaposes the mainstreem expectation that a judge is a knowledgeable, objective and neutral adjudicator to our fear that robot, having precisely those values, is what we dislike as an idea of a good judge. This contradiction reveals that, even if we do not admit it, our expectations of judges include more of their personal involvement and empathy.
