Serologic evidence for bovine immunodeficiency virus infection in Croatia
Sera samples were collected from dairy cows under the control because of current bovine leukemia virus (BLV) infection. The first group was comprised 88 serum samples and the second 198 serum samples which were collected from different farms in Croatia. Sera were tested by enzyme immunoassay for BIV and by commercial ELISA and standard agar gel immunodiffusion for antibodies to BLV. Seven (7.9%) of the tested sera from the first group were positive for BIV, and 42 (47.7%) samples were positive for BLV. None of 198 tested samples from the second group was positive for BIV, but 43 were positive for BLV. Taken together, 2.4% of 286 tested sera were positive to BIV, while 29.7% were positive to BLV.
