Crete-Helsinki Corridor No. X. in Croatia

This presentation demonstrates a section of the X. Pan-european (Crete-Helsinki) Corridor, that lies on the territory of Republic of Croatia. In the HŽ railway network this section is the highest quality crossing direction. On its largest part it is a double lined electrified track enabled for speeds up to 120/160 km/h, axle mass is 22,5 t/os and 8 t/m1, equipped with relay security systems. In this railway direction so far Croatian Railways have invested great means, and this crossing section is a high priority in the modernization plans. As this crossing direction was interrupted on two spots during the war, the traffic on those sections was completely suspended, and on the rest of the track the traffic was operating in decreased volume. After the end of the war, the traffic increased slowly, and at the moment it reached 20-30 % of the traffic volume from the 1990. (in other words before the war started). The damages caused by war were mostly improvement. There is only one section left un assented, from Vinkovci to the border of SRJ. On this section the preparations for the for general track overhaul and equipping of railway station with modern security systems are in progress. (this section will be enabled for the maximal speed of 160 km/h). In development project the construction of the second gauge next to existing one lined track Zagreb-Sisak (50,0 km) and Kutina-Novska (23,2 km), and the construction of the new double lined track from Sisak to Kutina (32,4 km) are being planned. This way the whole direction should be double lined. In the network of high speed lines in Europe up to now the X. Corridor represents the very only traffic direction in Croatia where the construction of high speed line has been planned. Therefore is anticipated that after the construction of the second gauge and new track on the line Zagreb-Novska is accomplished, the maximal speed on this section would be 250 km/h. The project elaboration for this part of the track is in progress (elaborated by Italian firm TEAM, as a part of the technical help from the Government of Republic of Italy) based on the mentioned parameters. Studies of the part of the traffic section on the X. Corridor from the state border to the Slovenia-Savski Marof- Zagreb and Novska-Tovarnik as a high speed line are yet to come. According to the information from Slovenian Railways the project elaboration for the high speed line between Trieste and Ljubljana is in progress, and the project for the fast line from Ljubljana to Zagreb is anticipated to be continued. The Governments of Italy and Slovenia have signed the intention letter about the line construction due to 2015.
