Nutritive Quality of Carrot from Breeding in Consociation with Callendula

Consociation or culture combination represents multiple culture farming on the same place in the same time. It has its advantages compared to growing only one culture at a time. Interest for growing plants in consociation derives from need to change former conventional farming and reduce the usage of chemical substances. The carrot (Daucus carota, L.) is a biannual plant known for being a rich source of useful nutrients. As well as the minerals, vitamins also take a major role in biochemical composition of carrot, especially provitamin A and carotene. The purpose of this research was to determine favorable relations between marigold and qualitative properties of carrot from consociative farming. Testing was conducted by random block schedule in three variants: I - 100 % carrot, II - 75 % marigold + 25 % carrot, III – 50 % marigold + 50 % carrot and four repeats. The largest root mass (26, 07 – 26.55 g), vitamin C (14.00 – 14, 83 mg/100g FM) was measured in variants I and III (p<0.05) and is considerably higher than in variant II (18.68 g ; 11.67 mg/100g FM). By analising variance, a statistically significant difference was established in carotenoid concentraion, and the highest values were measured in the variant II (19.24 mg/100g FM), while there is no statistically justified difference between variants in total soluble solids and total sugers concentration. Based on conducted researching, we can conclude that only consociation marigold 75 % and carrot 25 % has a positive impact on increasing nutrititive quality of the carrot.
