The Role of Some Non Standard Laboratory Tests in Drill-in Fluid Selection
Critical issues to consider when beginning drilling fluid selection include reservoir characteristics, proposed hole configuration, programmed completion techniques and governmental regulations. In horizontal well some functions of drilling fluid are more prononunced than in vertical wells. Hole cleaning and minimization of formation damage are some near the top of the list. In adition to standard tests for drilling fluid properties, additional test for better evaluation of fluids capability to fullfil mentioned tasks have to be done. These tests include measurement of LSRV (Low shear rate viscosity) by Brookfield viscometer and static filtration measurement by Permeability Plugging Apparatus. Described tests were done on two drill-in fluids which could be used for re-entry drilling on one oil field in Croatia. Results of the examination will be presented in the article.
