Corridor V branch C

The project provides an outline of railway tracks on Pan- European Corridor with 5 C branches, that connect Budapest with Port of Ploèe on Adriatic coast. Corridor V c runs trough three states: Hungary, Croatia and Bosnia and Herzegovina. This Corridor connected with the main direction of V. Corridor in Budapest. The main Corridor V. connects Venice and Trieste on the Adriatic coast with Lwow in Ukraine. The Corridor V.c is from great importance, because it ensures regional connections in Bosnia and Herzegovina, and on the southern part it opens a way towards Adriatic coast to Port of Ploèe, which is a gate to a south-eastern and western Europe ( via Corridor X.) For Croatia is this Corridor important as well, because it connects the Port of Ploèe with hinterland, and this way ensures its development. In Croatia this Corridor ensures the closest connection between the south-eastern region of Croatia ( eastern Slavonia) and the middle and southern Adriatic, and ensures a fast connection between Osijek and Zagreb via X. Corridor. For Hungary is this Corridor from great importance because it ensures the most convenient connection between south-eastern Hungary and Adria. Therefore is the V.c Corridor important for all these three countries, as it runs across them. From this reason it was proposed as one of the most important projects for this region by the Stability Pact. Analysis of the planned investments on the Corridor point out the necessity of co-ordination of development plans concerning the railway investments in the countries where through runs the Corridor. The modernisation project in Croatia is a highest priority with provided means for its realisation and with dynamics that promises the completion of activities up to 2006. In Bosnia and Herzegovina this project is high priority as well and with partially provided means, but its dynamic hasn’t been defined in details yet, while in Hungary this project doesn't belong to high priority issues, though on some Corridor sections there are investments in improvement of railway infrastructure. New bridge in Šamac, which is almost completed, will ensure undisturbed traffic on the Corridor . As the traffic opens, it will take lot of effort to speed up the operations on the international border crossings and at the checking procedures from region-to region crossings within Bosnia and Herzegovina itself. By speeding up the border crossing procedures, the duration of travel cuts back significally, what makes the Corridor more competitive.
