MANUFACTURING DESIGN METHODOLOGY FOR REPLICA OF „RAPSKA LADJA“ TOWARDS PRESERVING SHIPBUILDING HERITAGE
The north Adriatic coastal area was always rich with small shipyards, of which some have developed into a significant industry. In such shipyards, wooden shipbuilding was cherished where lots of small boats with characteristic shapes were constructed. Typical hull forms developed include: „vološćanski guc“, „lovranska gajeta“, „kvarnerska pasara“, „rapska ladja“ etc. In some European countries this shipbuilding heritage is well exploited for touristic purposes, while such knowledge and skills of Croatian shipbuilding is not well preserved and archived. Therefore, the authors suggest a methodology based on modern techniques and tools applied for digitalization and design of the typical hull forms and design documentation as well. Consequently, the photogrammetric and 3D modeling methods were applied to an example of this heritage, „rapska ladja“, of which no sample was conserved until today. Based on a created miniature model of “rapska ladja”, modern techniques were applied to develop a 3D hull model. Then, the developed digital 3D model was used for further design of complete manufacturing documentation of „rapska ladjđa“ which enables an original replica of such a boat to be built.
