Light Scattering by Large Ellipsoidal Particles. II. Determination of Optical Anisotropy by Polarization Ratio

Polarization ratios of monodisperse ellipsoidal particles of barium sulfate were determined at wavelengths of 546 and 436 nm, and the optical anisotropy was determined. A significant increase of the optical anisotropy with the increasing axial ratio of particles was found. A part of the optical anisotropy can be ascribed to the anisotropic form, but the other portion is a consequence of the internal anisotropy of the barium sulfate particles.
