Primary education students’ opinions about ICT application in Nature and Society teaching

Teachers need to be ICT literate and competent and have to learn to integrate their knowledge, technology and pedagogic skills into teaching. Still in our schools, the use of ICT for educational purposes depends primarily on individual ambitions and traits. Teacher education and training must be a prerequisite for effectively integrating ICT in schools. The aim of this research was to determine the differences in opinions of the primary education students about their readiness and education acquired during the studies for ICT application in nature and society teaching. The opinion of the primary education students of the Faculty of Educational and Educational Science in Osijek was examined ; it was examined whether there is a difference in opinions about the application of ICT in nature teaching of students attending the development module and students attending the informatics module. The research results point to the positive opinions of the primary education student for the application of ICT in nature and society teaching. Students express the desire to apply ICT in various ways in nature and society teaching, but point to the lack of content related to ICT teaching during the studies. There are differences in the student's opinion depending on the module they attend ; students of informatics module have more positive opinions about ICT implementation. The results of the research indicate there is a need for modernization of the existing curriculum of primary education. By acquiring new computer competences for the application of ICT in nature and society teaching primary education students can be the initiators for developing computer competences of children since the beginning of the education.
