Optimizing change-over temperature point in bivalent geothermal heat pump systems: Case study on Zagreb climate area
In this work a simulation of a bivalent hybrid closed-loop geothermal system is presented. Few system configurations were simulated: geothermal parallel and alternative mode of operation with two temperature ranges for low- temperature heat pump operation: 30/35 and 40/45 ˚C. For comparison, a monovalent geothermal and gas systems were also simulated and results of all configurations were compared on the basis of LCOE for a Zagreb City area. The presented in this paper closely integrates the response of the reservoir on heat extraction capabilities of the borehole heat exchanger and coefficient of performance of the heat pump. The results show that monovalent geothermal systems can have lower LCOE when price of gas is higher. However, lowest LCOE is obtained for bivalent parallel regimes when bivalent temperature is below 0 ˚C.
