PEERE Research on peer review: Editors' opinions on open peer review
Numerous studies are investigating peer review proces which is in the crisis: peer reviewers don't agree much, reviewers don't reliably select highly cited articles, peer review is not effective in detecting errors, rigorous peer review has not prevented the publication of fraudulent science in major journals, and according Wager and Jefferson study (2001) peer review is slow, expensive, biased and open to abuse. The main goal of the COST Action PEERE is to improve efficiency, transparency, and accountability of peer review through a trans- disciplinary, cross-sectorial collaboration. One of the research topics in PEERE is open peer review (OPR) which has many benefits and reduces bias among reviewers. The results of the survey of the Croatian OA journals on OPR show that OPR is not accepted by Croatian OA journals and only 7% of editors strongly agree that OPR would enhance the peer review quality.
