Intelligent Transport System as Support to Fleet and Logistic Management

Information systems are the enabler of the integrated logistics concept. Freight distributors and transport operators cannot effectively manage costs, provide superior customer service, and be leaders in logistics performance without leading-edge information systems. An integrated and high-performing organisation is key to successful logistics performance. Integrated distribution and logistics management does not necessarily mean centralisation of the logistics activity into a single organisation unit. ITS such as variable message-direction signs on main arterials, ring roads and motorways to inform, warn and divert travellers as well as public access terminals – kiosks providing real time traffic and travel information including tourist and ticketing services.
