Not by might : the power of peacemaking
In this book, Julijana Mladenovska-Tešija has tackled the important question about the necessity of violence in human relationships from a philosophical, theological and practical perspective. She has intended and succeeded to show that from all these perspectives violence is not necessary and that retreat to violence is a learned experience in humans. She explores this issue even further: does Romans 13 stands as a call to Christians to obey a government, even when it is unjust? Can Christians be violent and even kill in the name of government and ask no questions? Mladenovska-Tešija answer is Jesus’ way of suffering but not in the romantic and passive way as it is sometimes suggested by Christians. Instead of punishing the guilty, God reconciles them through the suffering of Jesus. In this, Jesus is not a passive victim, but one who challenges violence and injustice and is ready to lose over the issue. Romans 13 thus cannot be meant in the way of passive acceptance of injustice in governments.
