OPTIMIZATION OF ABRASIVE WATERJET MACHINING PROCESS PARAMETERS
Currently, more than 50 000 different construction materials are available on the market and that number increases. Many new materials are often difficult to machine with conventional methods which are currently dominating in production facilities, so industry is more and more turning to non – traditional machining processes such as abrasive waterjet cutting (AWJC). With the exceptional capabilities which provide, abrasive waterjet cutting has disadvantages such as surface roughness and striatin marks on cutting surface which represents limitation for further application in production. Experimental part of the paper is focusing on verification of thesis whether conventional material process technologies can be replaced with abrasive waterjet cutting technology under certain conditions, while maintaining required quality of machined surface and productivity. Analysis of influence of selected cutting parameters and optimization of model were performed on specimens from AISI 316L steel on cutting depth of 25 mm. Results obtained by optimization showed that abrasive waterjet cutting can replace conventional technologies and achieve required values of machined surface.
