An example of a high soil nailed wall in plastic clayey soil
In the paper, described is 20 m high nailled wall for one shopping center building, which is recently built in the down town of Zagreb. The retained ground is highly plastic overconsolidated clay. The excavation pit for the building is interpolated between two old houses with problematic foundations on the steeply inclined terrain which brought additional difficulties in soil nailling construction. The wall will serve as a permanent structure although the lower portion (approximately 5m high) is planned to be supported from the outside. The paper describes in situ and laboratory testing results and accordingly design soil parameters. The deformations from inside soil to facing were evaluated by means of deformeters and compared to the lateral movement of survey points on the face of the wall. The pull-out tests were carried out on three prestrained anchors and the results showed that soil nail wall will remain stable under predefined loads. Some results of the stability analysis of the problem are presented too.
