Evaluation of measuring methods for the evaluation of Additive Manufacturing
Additive manufacturing, or 3D printing as most of us know it, is currently the buzz word in the manufacturing. These printers cover the range of uses from the hobbyist, where the printers cost in the region of US$ 1 000 up to professional printers where the costs of these printers run over US$ 200 000. The additive manufacturing process is been around for many years but latest development seen this industry booming. A few years ago this industry was estimated to be 2 billion US$ and is expected to grow to 20 billon US$ by 2020. (Wohlers Reports 2015- Additive Manufacturing and 3D printing State of the Industry) With this as background, NMISA and the University of Zagreb initiated a project in the research of this industry. The research was focused on the evaluation of the printed parts and more specific the measuring techniques used to evaluate these. The part investigated will only be evaluated for dimensional accuracy.
