Symposium on Smart Environments & Internet of Things was held in the frame of the 25th International Conference on Software, Telecommunications and Computer Networks (SoftCOM 2017) in attractive ambience of the Radisson Blu Resort hotel, Split, September 21-23, 2017. The Conference was organized by the University of Split, Faculty of Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering and Naval Architecture under the auspices of the Ministry of Science, Education and Sports. The Conference has been technically co-sponsored by the IEEE Communications Society (ComSoc). SoftCOM gathers researchers and experts from industry, research institutes and universities from all over the world. The technical conference program featured eight general conference sessions, six symposia, and two special sessions. Symposium on Smart Environments & Internet of Things was organized by the University of Split, FESB. In total, nine papers were accepted for publication and presented at the Conference. In the frame of our Symposium, also an invited talk on "IoT‐Based WSN: Softwarization and Virtualization Towards CPS Intelligence" was held. The main goal of this Symposium was to present and discuss recent advances in the area of the Internet of Things, in particular on technologies, architectures, algorithms and protocols for smart environments with emphasis on real smart environment applications that are becoming research topics more and more interesting for both academia and industry.
