Analysis of Spectrum Efficiency When Using Asymmetric Microwave Links

Asymmetric microwave links have been introduced only recently as a novel concept for wireless networks which should provide higher spectrum efficiency and thus significant savings of radiofrequency spectrum. This paper presents technical assessment of this approach with its main advantages and disadvantages, focusing on comparative analysis of symmetric and asymmetric microwave links networks. The analysis was performed on a realistic representation of rural scenario for the capacity of the existing network. Benefits in terms of increased spectrum efficiency have been assessed.
