Radon in soil and homes of Osijek
Systematic radon measurements were undertaken in soil and dwellings of Osijek (100 000 citizens, East Croatia). The empirical frequency distribution of indoor radon concentrations was obeyed the theoretical log-normal distribution ; the arithmetic mean of the radon concentrations was 76 Bq/m3 The indoor radon map pointed out a region of higher radon concentrations (central part of the town), that was ascribed to the geological soil structure. The radon concentrations in soil had the arithmetic mean of 26 kBq/m3 with the standard deviation of 6.3 kBq/m3 . The statistical investigation showed a good association of the radon concentrations in soil and homes with the significant correlation coefficient of 0.62 . Calculating Lyapunov exponent for time series of radon concentrations in soil gave a positive value (0.176), that pointed out a deterministic chaos and influencing meteorological parameters on radon emanation from soil.
