The Role of Radiology in the Diagnosis and Management of Parasitic Infections
Parasitic diseases are relatively uncommon in radiologists' daily practice in Europe. In the last decade some of parasitic diseases have been increasing in incidence because of immigration and tourist traveling to endemic regions. In this presentation imaging findings of the most prevalent human parasitic diseases in our everyday practice will be reviewed. Imaging of parasitic infections is often nonspecific and may mimic different diseases, especially malignant neoplasms. Radiologists should be familiar with typical imaging characteristics of these diseases as well as understand the basic physio-pathology and clinical features to help in the achievement of a correct and prompt diagnosis.
